Disability in Coalfields Literature c.1880 -1948: A Comparative study

Wellcome Trust PhD Studentship from 1 October 2012 for three years
(Stipend starting at £19,919).

Swansea University, in partnership with the Universities of Aberystwyth, Northumbria and Strathclyde, has been awarded a five-year Wellcome Trust funded project on Disability and Industrial Society: A comparative cultural history of British Coalfields, c. 1780-1948.

The PhD will be a comparative study of disability in the literature of three coalfields (South Wales, North East England and Scotland) from the late nineteenth century to 1948.  The successful student will be based at Swansea University and will work as part of the 14-strong project team.
