“The Emotions” (CFP, Conference, Sheffield, 28–30 March 2014)

The Society of Dix-Neuviémistes will hold its twelfth annual  
conference entitled ‘The Emotions’ at the University of Sheffield in  
March 2014.

Proposals are invited for papers treating aspects of the conference
theme in relation to nineteenth-century French and Francophone
culture, history and art history. Suggested topics include, but are
not limited to:

  • Melancholy
  • Phobias
  • Joy
  • Anger
  • Spleen et idéal
  • History of the Emotions
  • Sentimental Education
  • Le roman personnel
  • Solitude
  • Intimacy and Private Life
  • Mourning
  • Hostility
  • Conflict
  • Affective Images
  • Schadenfreude
  • Weltschmerz
  • L’ennui
  • Emotivity
  • Overcoming emotions
  • Absence of emotions
  • Childish emotions
